Buckley Leather Goods

My name is Skylar Buckley and I am the craftsman behind Buckley Leather Goods. I grew up in the Central Oregon High Desert along the base of the Cascade Mountains, spending much of my life immersed in the Oregon wilderness. Whether I am riding horses, fishing, or chasing powder days on the ski hill, it is this land and these mountains that shaped me and continue to inspire me. With a strong desire to be my own boss, an independent & at times rebellious mindset, I’ve always been on a mission to create a life that I can live on my own terms. As a father and husband, living a simple and fulfilling life that allows me to be present and available is more important than ever.

Growing up riding horses, and being around saddles and tack, I was always infatuated with leather and leather work. Leather - particularly the smell of leather - is something that seemed to make me time travel, like I was back somewhere living life in the Wild West. In a lot of ways I still get that feeling when I’m in my leather shop or in a tack room. It makes me feel like that same little kid who would romanticize the old days.

In 2021, I picked up some tools & leather and started creating products that served a purpose to me and my interests. Crafting useful items with my own two hands quickly became an obsession that felt right to embrace. I have a deep appreciation for the ways of old, when things were made by real people with real materials and I am inspired to carry on that old timey spirt and offer something of value to the world.

My Mission

In this world of single use, cheap, and disposable products, I feel I have an obligation to create quality handmade products that don’t wear out but rather break in and last years, if not generations. And in doing so, create a more environmentally conscious and sustainable product that doesn’t get tossed in the landfill.
